Artist-activist Masello Motana fought her battle for affordable housing, occupied a property in 2018, and began planting a food garden on what others used as a dumpsite.

Recognising during the 2020 lockdown that her lack of knowledge is limiting her success, she travels to rural Free State Province to meet Mafusi Molefi, fellow lockdown gardener and rural permaculture teacher, to learn how to get her soil to produce more food – if her plans of self and land restoration are to succeed.

Not only does Masello learn how others relate to and live off the soil, she also discovers a community she never knew she had.

Daughters of The Soil is a spiritual journey of healing and future growth.
